Friday Oct 1: 7 CE hours

Bus leaves The Inn on Lake Superior at 7:15 AM for the kennel program.

8-12 pm Sled dog kennel field trip (4 hours) –  Jerry Vanek, MS, DVM, CCRT - moderator

bulletTopics to include gait analysis using an underwater treadmill, evaluation of locomotion and performance, demonstration of dogs running in harness, therapeutic harness fitting.
bulletFall cart training with local mushers.

12-2 pm  Transportation back to Inn, lunch on own

 

2-3 pm  Feeding sled dogs: Beyond meat - the usefulness of dietary supplements for performance.    Joe Wakshlag,  MS, DVM, PhD, DACVN  Cornell University

3-3:15 Break

3:15- 4:15 pm A breed's dilemma: The introduction of neurologic disorders in the Alaskan Husky.  Joe Wakshlag, MS, DVM, PhD, DACVN Cornell University

4:15-5:15 Updates in pathology: oxidative stress concepts in sled dogs Randall Basaraba, DVM, PhD, DACVP Colorado State University

 

Saturday Oct 2: 8 CE hours

8am- 12pm    Chris Zink DVM, PhD, DACVP (Johns Hopkins University) (4 hours)  The Canine Athlete     Topics to include biomechanics and the causes of lameness or decreased performance.  (Breaks included)

--The banquet fare will include your choice of Herb-crusted Walleye (Minnesota's state fish) or Ginger-marinated Duck Breast on a bed of Wild Rice (Minnesota's state grain) sauteed with dried cherries and apricots.  Included with the meal will be a Vegetable Medley, salad, rolls, gourmet coffee, herbal teas, and milk.  Special arrangements are available for vegetarians and those with dietary needs.--

 

 

Sunday Oct 3 -   7  CE hours

8-12:00   Chris Zink DVM, PhD, DACVP (Johns Hopkins University)  – The Canine Athlete (continued) -  Topics to include specific conditioning programs for dogs with genetic or structural problems,  Stress and the performance dog.  (Breaks included)

12:00-1:30 Luncheon at Inn, General Membership Meeting

1:30-3:00  Canine and human intoxications to be aware of in sled dog medicine Justine Lee, DVM, DACVECC, Pet Poison Helpline

3:30-3:15 break

3:15-4:45 pm Updates on drug testing from the International Federation of Sled Dog Sports (IFSS) and the World Anti-Doping Authority (WADA) Ms. Sally Bair, Secretary General, IFSS

$300 USD members including luncheon
$350 USD nonmembers including luncheon
$75 USD students (not including luncheon)
 Banquet extra for all attendees:  $40 USD
